Our History

Our History On May 19, 1892, The Needham Cooperative Bank opened for business in a room at the corner of Chestnut Street and Great Plain Avenue.  At that time Needham was a small town with a population of about two thousand, with manufacturing specialties in hosiery and bicycles.  During the many years since The Needham Cooperative Bank has grown with its community, providing banking services to encourage thrift, home ownership, and enterprise.

From its earliest days The Needham Cooperative Bank was known for its friendly service and deep commitment to the community, and opened its current main office in 1923.  The Medfield Cooperative Bank merged with the Needham Cooperative Bank in the summer of 1965, and in 1975 opened the Westwood branch. Three years later the Wellesley branch was added. And in 2007 The Dedham Co-operative Bank merged with The Needham Cooperative Bank and formed Needham Bank.

Needham Bank is an excellent example of the proverb, “Tall oaks from little acorns grow.” By remaining loyal to its primary mission, consistently offering products and services that are among the best in the business, and never forgetting its commitment to the community, Needham Bank has grown substantially. We enthusiastically thank our customers for their many years of support as we look forward to many more years of success.
